Welcome!

In the late seventies, my family immigrated from Scotland to the United States where I've made a career out of my driving passions: reading, writing, and teaching. I'm currently an English Professor at Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where, among other things, I conduct a seminar on the art of the mystery, teach courses on the future in film and fiction, and a variety of writing classes. I've been teaching at Alverno for over twenty years (I started when I was, em, 14).

I’m also a regular contributor to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, where my column on crime fiction runs every third Sunday. My reviews also run in The Minneapolis Star Tribune, and every month I visit WTMJ4's The Morning Blend to chat about books.

My last appearance is available here and my next appearance will be on July 19th.

I'm also on Facebook (Carole E. Barrowman). Join my page for regular updates and more. There's also a number of interesting book related discussions on my FB page.

The paperback edition of I Am What I Am (Michael O'Mara Books) written in collaboration with my brother, John Barrowman, was officially launched this month with a book talk and signing at the National Theatre in London. In the US copies are avalable at Boswell Books in Milwaukee (they'll ship) and from Amazon.

If you're a mystery fan, a selection of my past reviews are in MYSTERY MATTERS

If you're an editor or publicist, a selection of my published reviews is under ARTICLES AND REVIEWS and SELECTED ESSAYS.

If you're one of my students at Alverno College, one of my regular readers or you're just passing through, I hope you'll wander in these pages for awhile.

Cheers,

Carole
